Every block ends with a quilt you can make from it: the finished size, how many blocks, how much fabric and how the blocks are set. And there are three family quilts besides.

Also in the book: The Car Quilt, a lap robe that teaches twelve easy blocks at once, and The Cellar Quilt, a memory quilt from family clothes, with a pocket on the back.
Mother made every quilt in our house out of printed feed sacks. She never owned a pattern book. She kept the blocks in her hands and in her head, and she put them in mine one at a time at the kitchen table, starting with a Nine Patch the winter I was six.
I am eighty-four now. There are forty quilts in the cedar chest, and I am the last one who knows how each of them goes together. So I drew the blocks out the way she taught them, wrote down the measurements she never wrote down, and put the story of each one beside it.
The old ways aren't lost, honey. They're just folded away in the chest.

No. It is a PDF you download. You can read it on a screen or print it yourself. Nothing is shipped.
Part One is ten blocks with straight seams only, and they are in the order to learn them. Start with the Nine Patch. The blocks with curves and hand sewing are at the back, and they will wait for you.
Most cutting charts give three finished sizes, so you can make a block small for a wall quilt or large for a bed quilt. The blocks cut from full-size patterns come in one size. All measurements are in inches and already include the quarter-inch seam.
No. Mother cut everything with scissors. The charts work the same with scissors and a ruler or with a rotary cutter and mat.
No. Any cotton print will do. The book tells you how to choose fabrics today that give the old feed-sack look.
